Space Constraints
Growing inside the walls you already have.
The problem
Volume grows, SKU count grows, and the building does not. Aisles narrow, overflow appears in trailers and third-party storage, and the operation gets slower in ways that are hard to attribute to any single decision.
How automation helps
Density is the first lever, not the last. A grid that stores multi-deep and retrieves randomly holds substantially more in the same footprint than racking that must leave an aisle beside every face — and it does so without giving up access to any individual tote.
Practical moves
- Multi-deep storage with random access to every location
- Vertical volume recovered from aisle and clearance allowances
- Overflow and third-party storage brought back in-house
- Expansion deferred until it is driven by growth, not by layout
