Fewer people in the cold, more product in the volume.
Cold storage is the clearest case for automation on both cost lines at once: refrigerated volume is expensive to build and expensive to run, and staffing it is difficult and physically demanding. Density reduces the volume you have to chill, and automation reduces the time people spend inside it.
